Governor Hogan Discusses His Success As A Republican in Deep-Blue Maryland on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe”

Governor Hogan joined MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” to discuss the Omicron surge and how he’s managed to remain overwhelmingly popular with every demographic as a Republican in the bluest state in America.

Governor Hogan On His Overwhelming Popularity: “I’m a lifelong right of center Republican. I’m governing in the bluest state in America…I’m at a 79% approval rating in my state, and that includes among Democrats, Independents, and Republicans…It seems to be working. The people in my state are very happy with the job we are doing, and I think avoiding the angry, divisive rhetoric and the kind of conspiracy theories that many of the folks in my party are doing, but we’re seeing this on both sides: the over-the-top rhetoric, the divisiveness. It’s not what most people in the country want, which is why some of my fellow governors are also some of the most popular governors in the county. Usually Republican governors in blue states are the most popular because we work together and get things done in a pragmatic bipartisan way.”

Governor Hogan On What Voters Want: “The average person really wants their elected official to tell it like it is. They want them to be able to get things done, and they want them to be able to work across the aisle, not demonize the other side, but find bipartisan common sense solutions…It’s the opposite of what happens in Washington these days on both sides of the aisle where there is demonizing and fighting and yelling about issues and the public doesn’t like it, which is why I’m probably 30, 40 points ahead of Biden and Trump in my state.”

Governor Hogan On Omicron Surge: “We’ve had the largest drop in hospitalizations in all 50 states. We have the lowest case rates in America out of every state in the country…It’s not behind us. We’re heading in the right direction, and we’re not going to quit the fight, but it’s looking much much better.”
