Governor Hogan Joins CNN’s "State of the Union" To Discuss Historic Wins on Tax Cuts, Stopping Partisan Gerrymandering

Governor Hogan joined CNN’s “State of the Union” to discuss his recent historic wins on delivering relief amid skyrocketing inflation, signing into law the largest tax cut in Maryland history, and stopping extreme partisan gerrymandering.

Governor Hogan on the State of the Economy: “I think it’s really encouraging news to see the job growth. We’ve been experiencing the same thing in our state, and we have been for more than 11 months….However, it really doesn’t change the pain that people are feeling. The average person is feeling due to inflation as you mentioned with higher gas prices and higher prices of groceries and everything that they buy…People are still struggling. Families are having a difficult time dealing with these higher prices.”

Governor Hogan on Delivering Relief Amid High Inflation: “We were the first state in the nation to pause the gas tax to save people a little money at the pump, and we just signed into law $2 billion in tax cuts to let people, especially retired people and people on fixed incomes and lower incomes, keep more of their own money in their own pockets to pay for the higher prices.”

Governor Hogan on Court Ruling Knocking Down Gerrymandered Congressional Map: “It was a huge win for democracy and free and fair elections. Gerrymandering is a cancer on our politics. It’s bad no matter which party does it…This is the first time in the country that a Democratic map was thrown out.”
