Earlier today, Governor Hogan joined CNBC’s “Squawk Box” and Fox News “America’s Newsroom” to discuss common sense solutions on the ongoing crime and inflation crises. This summer, Governor Hogan held roundtables in the Northeast and Midwest to hear the concerns of Americans and promote An America United’s Inflation Relief Plan and Plan of Action for Safer Communities.
Governor Hogan On The Inflation Crisis: “People all across America are concerned about inflation. Prices are out-of-control, we got supply chain issues, we’ve got to work on our domestic energy production. In our state, we’re doing fairly well. We turned the economy around. We cut taxes eight years in a row by $4.8 billion. We took a $5 billion deficit and turned it into a $3 billion surplus. We took our economy’s overall economic performance from 49th out of 50 states to number six, the greatest economic turnaround in America. We’ve got more people working, more businesses open.”
Governor Hogan On Biden’s Student Debt Transfer: “I thought [this] was a bad idea when we are in an inflationary period. But [in Maryland] we’ve done things to try and make college more affordable. We were the first-in-the-nation to remove the requirement for a four-year degree for thousands of state jobs. We’ve done a lot to work on apprenticeships and getting people skills that they need for jobs of the future.”
Governor Hogan On Toxic Politics: “You’ve got the current administration, President Biden moving too far to the left, not focused on fixing some of these economic problems that we’re dealing with. Instead of the Republicans focusing on the concerns of the average hardworking American. They’re talking about Mar-a-Lago and Trump and relitigating the 2020 election. I think the average person just wants them to focus on fixing the problems and caring about them.”
Governor Hogan on Energy Production: “I’m for expanded energy production all across America. We’ve got to reverse the polices of Joe Biden and not being so reliant on foreign countries.”
Governor Hogan on Re-Fund The Police Initiative: “When all this far-left lunacy first came out, I was the first elected leader in America to strongly speak out against this and say ‘our police are underfunded and under attack.’ In Maryland, we initiated a half a billion increase in police funding including a 50% increase in state funding to local police. This was overwhelmingly popular not just in Republican areas, but with folks in places like Baltimore city, who were the victims of crime, and they didn’t want to defund the police. Saying you want to defund the police to improve policing is like saying you want to defund the schools to improve education, it’s lunacy.”
Governor Hogan on Supporting Pro-Law Enforcement Candidates: “Portland is a poster child for far-left polices run amuck. People doing hard drugs that are now legalized all over the streets. 207% increase in violent crime. Christine Drazan is a great candidate who’s focused on this. She and I did a roundtable with people on homelessness and crime and what we’re going to do about it. I think she’s got a great shot…In 2014…People said that a Republican can’t win in the bluest state in America. But we did because people were so fed up that they were ready to vote in a way that they never had before. And that’s what I saw in Oregon.”
Governor Hogan on Crime: “In 2015, when the riots broke out in Baltimore, I immediately declared a state of emergency and sent in a thousand extra police officers, four thousand members of the National Guard and stopped the violence immediately, which is the opposite of what happened in Portland and Seattle and every other city in America.”
