While Congress remains mired in gridlock, overwhelming bipartisan majorities of Americans agree on providing fiscal aid to state and local governments during this crisis.
According to a new poll from the Pew Research center, over three-quarters of Americans support this emergency measure, including strong majorities of Republicans and Democrats alike. As the Washington Examiner reported, both red states and blue states are “facing major budget shortfalls and asking Congress for help.” With the recent surge of COVID cases throughout the country, additional stimulus has become even more urgent.
The Pew poll is more proof that Americans across party lines recognize what Governor Hogan wrote in a recent New York Times op-ed: “Temporary aid can’t solve long-term fiscal challenges, but they can provide state and local governments a critical lifeline while the economy gets back on its feet.”
