POLITICO: Former FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb Joins Governor Hogan’s Coronavirus Response Team

“Two of the most lauded public officials during the coronavirus crisis” are now working together to save lives. According to POLITICO, former FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb has joined Governor Hogan’s coronavirus response team. Dr. Gottlieb has become “one of the most trusted public voices on the virus” by “both sides of the aisle.”

Like Governor Hogan, Dr. Gottlieb is a cancer survivor who has “been warning Americans to take the virus more seriously for months.” Dr. Gottlieb recently outlined a framework on how and when to gradually and responsibly lift restrictions without putting the health of Americans at risk.

As The Washington Post recently reported, Governor Hogan formed a coronavirus response team in early February with some of the top public health experts in the nation, including epidemiologists from Johns Hopkins and the University of Maryland Medical System, emergency logistics specialists, and hospital executives.

POLITICO Playbook Reports:

TWO OF THE MOST LAUDED PUBLIC OFFICIALS during the coronavirus crisis are SCOTT GOTTLIEB and Maryland Gov. LARRY HOGAN.

GOTTLIEB – a former FDA commissioner under the Trump administration – has become one of the most trusted public voices on the virus, and HOGAN has been roundly praised for his candor in leading Maryland. Both have been warning Americans to take the virus more seriously for months.

NOW, GOTTLIEB is joining the governor’s coronavirus response team. He is also advising CHARLIE BAKER, the Republican governor of Massachusetts, and has earned the occasional retweet from the president.

HOGAN sent this statement along: ‘I’m thrilled to have former FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb join my coronavirus response team, which is composed of some of the top public health experts in the country. Dr. Gottlieb is widely respected on both sides of the aisle, and his expertise will be invaluable for guiding how and when we can responsibly lift restrictions while keeping Marylanders healthy and safe.’ AN AIDE pointed out both men are cancer survivors.”
