“Tremendous Victory For Democracy:” Maryland Becomes First State In America To Overturn Democratic Gerrymandered Map

Governor Hogan signed into law a new Maryland congressional map that overturns the extreme partisan gerrymander that was passed by the overwhelmingly Democratic legislature last year. Governor Hogan signed the map after the Maryland Attorney General agreed to withdraw their efforts to maintain the gerrymandered map that was struck down by the courts.

For decades, Maryland was known for having some of the worst, most gerrymandered maps in America. With this agreement making Maryland officially the first state in America to overturn a Democratic gerrymandered map, Governor Hogan has achieved a “tremendous victory for Democracy” and against partisan gerrymandering.
